Mentor Opportunity for UCSD Students

Call for Female Mentors!

Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) provides hands-on/minds-on exploration in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics for 6th – 10th grade girls. Our mission is to encourage young women to pursue careers in these fields by offering interactive workshops from Architecture to Zoology. Girls from all over San Diego County will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge in various areas talk with others who share similar interests, and have women college students (you!) studying science and technology as mentors for an entire day. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Milestones of Women in Science”. Please Note: All mentors are required to attend one of two training sessions prior to the Conference which will be held Sat. February 25th and Wed. February 29th on the University of San Diego campus.  Sign up today at www.eyhsandiego.org!

As a part of this conference, girls are put into groups and paired with female mentors. These mentors are undergraduate and graduate female students in STEM fields.

We are always looking for more female mentors. For students who are interested in pursuing a career in education, this is also great resume builder.   The time commitment required from students is very minimal. They would participate in the one-day conference on Saturday March 3, 2012 and a two hour volunteer training within the weeks before. More information can be found on www.eyhsandiego.org.
