Volunteer Opportunity Available!

Attention Undergraduates!

The *TMC/CREATE School Partnership Program* is seeking volunteers to serve
in *classroom* and *non-classroom* positions at three partner school sites:
*The Preuss School UCSD, Gompers Preparatory Academy, and Lincoln High
School.*

Volunteers support students in grades 6-12 at high-needs schools,
where educators are utilizing innovative and effective methods of shaping
positive outcomes for low-income, first-generation college-bound youth.

*Available positions include:*

  • Administrative Assistant
  • College Advisement
  • Dean’s Office
  • Family Support Center
  • Registrar
  • School Counseling
  • School Nurse
  • School Psychologist
  • Special Education
  • Student Services – Vice Principal
  • Teaching Assistant

As part of a well-connected community invested in education reform,
participants will gain professional contacts and invaluable work experience
that provide an excellent gateway into future job opportunities and
graduate programs.

*All applicants are accepted to the program*, and priority placement is
given to those who submit materials by* Friday, October 5.* Volunteers make
a one-quarter commitment, and these opportunities are offered every Fall,
Winter, and Spring Quarter.

*Additional volunteer opportunities with our affiliate, EducationCorps:

Through EducationCorps, a new volunteer program operated by
AmeriCorps*VISTA, students can serve as Corps Member Tutors for K-12
students in San Diego. Corps Member Tutors will have the opportunity to
network with AmeriCorps members and affiliate organizations, plus get a
letter of recommendation once service is completed! By the end of service,
volunteers will gain over 100 community service hours and valuable
experience working with youth. Officer positions are available for those
interested in leadership experience.****

EducationCorps currently sends tutors to three elementary schools and two
high schools and is continually establishing additional partnerships. K-12
students that participate come from disadvantaged backgrounds and will have
the opportunity to work directly with EducationCorps members toward
academic achievement and future success.****

The Partners at Learning (PAL) Program through UCSD’s Education Studies
Department offers another opportunity to get involved in K-12 schools, and
earn course credit for your participation! PAL participants are placed at
one of over 40 partner schools throughout San Diego, and serve as tutors
and mentors to students for one quarter. To learn about the variety of PAL
