Employment scope: Work study student sought for laboratory work. Up to 19 hours per week, January 2013 – July 2015.
Salary: $9.50 per hour
Job description: The student will work directly with a postdoctoral fellow to shadow and help her as required with daily tasks. The student will have the unique opportunity to learn basic and advanced laboratory techniques and will also gain insight into designing scientific experiments via one-on-one interactions will the fellow. The project is located in the VA hospital and investigates diabetic complications and inflammation.
Requirements: The student should preferably be enrolled in a biology course and have previous laboratory experience. Specifically, methods commonly applied in the project include western blots, PCR, tissue culture, animal handling and flow cytometry. Diligence and attention to detail is an absolute requirement of the student and excellent references of character will be sought. It is ideal if the student is available to work up to 19 hours per week regularly until the end of the project July 2015.
