The TMC/CREATE School Partnership Program is seeking volunteers to serve in classroom and non-classroom positions at two partner school sites: The Preuss School UCSD and Gompers Preparatory Academy. Volunteers support students in grades 6-12 at high-needs charter schools, where educators are utilizing innovative and effective methods of shaping positive outcomes for low-income, first-generation college-bound youth.
Volunteers spend one quarter serving 4 hours per week in the classroom, or 7-10 hours per week for non-classroom internships. With just a few hours per week, you can make a huge difference for local students!
For students who are interested in obtaining academic credit, this program is offered in conjunction with the TMC 198 class. TMC 198 is a 4 unit P/NP class that meets once per week to discuss their experiences at the school, critically analyze relevant topics in research and media, and learn from experts in the field of education.
TMC 198 fulfills the Upper Division Disciplinary Breadth (not significant writing) for Marshall students of any major, and fulfills the Practicum requirement for Sixth College students.
