My name is Andrew Wei and I’m a second year medical student at UCSD.  I’m also one of the leaders of the school of medicine Global Health Interest Group. Topic: RISE Global Health Initiative

Date/Time: Tuesday, Jan 21st, 12-1PM

Location: Liebow Auditorium

Description: Dr. Wael Al-Delaimy will be kicking off the week with a short introduction about global health followed by RISE GHI. “RISE Global Health Initiative serves as a platform to connect local and international clinical, academic and research institutions to achieve innovative global health solutions.” Come listen to how RISE started, what they do, and how you can get involved. Topic: Navy Humanitarian/Tropical Medicine, CDC

Date/Time: Tuesday, Jan 21st, 5-6:30PM

Location: MET Learning Center

Description: This evening features a panel of experts discussing the many different opportunities in global medicine that are available through government programs. This includes Navy Humanitarian Missions, such as the Mercy Missions, tropical medicine and public health research, and the Epidemic Intelligence Service of the CDC.

Topic: CDC Global AIDS Asia

Date/Time: Wednesday, Jan 22, 12-1PM

Location: Liebow Auditorium

Description: Dr. Bulterys was the former Director of the CDC Global AIDS Program in Beijing, China in 2008. He previously served as CDC Country Director in Zambia (2004-07) and in Haiti (Jan – Feb 2011 on detail for CDC during the cholera outbreak). Dr. Bulterys has worked on HIV/AIDS during his entire career at the CDC, first as team lead overseeing epidemiologic research on the risk of perinatal HIV transmission and pediatric AIDS (1998-2004).

Description: Come listen to Dr. Wang and Dr. Rahman (both UCSD family medicine physicians) talk about their frontline clinical work in urban South Africa.

Topic: Telemedicine

Date/Time: Thursday, Jan 23, 5:30-6:45PM

Location: Garren Auditorium

Description: Ever wonder what the “telemedicine” in MET acutally meant? Come listen to two talks: one by Dr. Gosman who’s a pediatric plastic surgeon who founded ConnectMed International, which uses telemedicine to provide follow up care after each surgery, as well as educational resources to health care providers and students around the world; the other by Dr. Friedman, who’s the Co-medical director of the Southern California Telemedicine Learning Center among his many other positions.

Description: Come listen to Dr. Dolhun, founder of Dolhun Clinic, a high touch private practice in San Francisco that provides integrative and personalized patient care, talk about his international relief work in Haiti, Pakistan and the Phillipines. Dr. Dolhun is also founder of Drip Drop, Inc., a company that has developed a patented, advanced oral rehydration solution (ORS), dedicated to improving health and saving lives around the world.
