Undergraduate Biology majors are invited to sign up for the following course this Winter (2015). ENG 100D: Design for Development; 4 units. Space is limited.
Course Description: This course is an introduction to the practice of human centered design and teamwork within a non-profit context. The focus of the course is a group project in which you and a small interdisciplinary team of your classmates will be asked to design a solution to a problem experienced by a local nonprofit organization or the community it serves. These will be real problems experienced by real people who are counting on you to design context-appropriate, affordable, and sustainable solutions. The course relies heavily on experiential and project-based learning, and encourages learning via reflection on the design process.
