The UCSD McNair Program is now recruiting outstanding juniors and seniors for research training and other preparation for graduate studies. Students with an interest in research and a strong academic record and who will be UCSD juniors or seniors this Winter (90+ units) are encouraged to apply. Every year, the program admits students and provides them with the opportunity to do research under the guidance of a faculty member and to receive money for summer research.
Over 100 of the program’s alumni have already earned their PhD’s, and dozens more are currently enrolled in graduate programs.
To be eligible, students should have a cumulative GPA of least a 2.9 and must be either (1) a first-generation college student qualifying as “low income” by Federal Standards or (2) a member of an ethnic group underrepresented in American universities (African American, Native American, Alaskan Native, Chicano/Latino or Pacific Islander).
Applications are due on October 25th for the 2015-2016 McNair cohort, and are ordinarily submitted online. The application requires a letter of recommendation by a faculty member and a statement of purpose (among other requirements) and so students should begin the application process soon.
