“Paid Research Opportunities at National Institutes of Health” Information Session

Academic Enrichment Programs (AEP) is sponsoring the following information session offered by Sara Kimmich, who is an AEP Alumna and currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Neuroscience (see below for info).

Cutting Edge Paid Research at National Institutes of Health

National Institutes of Health (NIH) is the nation’s largest medical research agency, with institutes ranging from Oncology to Mental Health. NIH offers paid training opportunities for undergraduates, recent graduates and graduate students. The first 30 minutes will be a talk about the what, when and where and why research is awesome at NIH. The last 30 minutes will be used as workshop for resumes, applications and for open discussion on biomedical career pathways after UCSD.

The presentation will cover:

  1. Why work at NIH? Research at institutes vs research in academia
  2. What paid research opportunities are available at every level of education, from college freshmen to graduating seniors
  3. How to search government grant data bases to find the right research fit for your interests
  4. When to apply to paid research programs and how to tailor your application to land your top choice

About the speaker:

Sara Kimmich graduated from UC San Diego in 2015 with a degree in Cognitive Science. She moved to the National Institutes of Health in Maryland for a post-baccalaureate research year while applying to graduate programs, and is now a PhD student in the Joint Graduate Program in Neuroscience from National Institutes of Mental Health and University College London for her research on changing human brain network dynamics in real time.
